A quick update on the timing, there's an embargo until 8 a.m. on Thursday. That's when live blogging will begin and I'll start sharing info about the meeting I'm going to today, as well as the review unit I received tomorrow.

Exciting times ahead, as the 6 Series could very well be my first 4K HDTV! Do you by chance happen to have an XBox One X that you can pair with it? I'm really most anxious to see how that combo will work out for both gaming and both streaming and Blu-ray media.

I do "by chance" have an Xbox One X I can pair with, yes. I'll have first impressions of that combo on Thursday.

My questions are:

1. Is it Native 60hz or 120hz?

2. Has the HDR improved? Is it closing in on 1,000 nits?

2. Has the input lag improved for 4K/HDR gaming?

From the manual on page 10 it only mentions 60hz. http://fccid.io/W8U55R613/User-Manu...Manual-3745006

Do you want 120hz for gaming from your PC?

Speaking for Movies; after some back and forth chat I don't think there will be a huge advantage to a 120hz panel since the 60hz panels can fall back and sync at 48hz natively. Giving a 1:1 movie cadence the same as the 120hz. LCD is sample and hold technology; meaning it holds it's current state until the next change (frame). A 120hz panel and a 48hz panel will both hold/display each frame for the same amount of time; indifferent from one another. Outside of the pixel response time between a 60hz and 120hz panel they should be nearly identical in terms of 24 FPS movie viewing since they both have back lights which strobe that helps with the motion. It'd be interesting to compare a 120hz panel to a 48hz panel side by side for 24FPS movie viewing given all things equal minus the sync rate.

Ahhh ok. Thank you so much for sharing that! I’m not too bummed out over it, but really hoping the HDR & input lag are improved on. I want to nab the 65” variant, but waiting until Thursday to find out.

Really exciting stuff! I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts, observations and overall impressions.

I'm personally interested to know about gray uniformity/dirty screen effect, possible improvements to the viewing angles, and whether the 6 series can refresh at 50Hz. For PC gaming it is very nice to have the option to vsync at 50Hz, because it's still very smooth but easier to consistently achieve in more demanding games.

LOVE this approach to early reviews, Mark. Looking forward to this one as I plan to buy my parents the 55".

My dad is a big sports guy (mostly baseball and football), which I understand was one of the knocks on the 2017 sets. Could you give an update on uniformity / motion (as it relates to viewing single color fields and fast action) on Thursday if possible?

Thanks in advance!

Can't wait for the reviews/impressions to roll in. My son has suggested I camp out at Best Buy on May 1. I may just have to do it if the reviews match the hype. We've been without a TV for a few weeks as the old one broke and I decided to wait for these to come out.

Been lurking for some time and really like you sensible posts. I'll be in the market soon so will be very interested in how these handle motion and standard def. Can't wait till Thur. Motion is important to me so I may have to do a Sony but wouldn't mind saving some money.

Not sure that number is relevant. How many TV's accept a 120hz signal on an input? Not many, if any. People are concerned about the native refresh rate of the panel, not the inputs. There a handful of PC gamers that would like a 120hz input but they're in the minority.

The input lag on the TCL P series was already industry-leading at 14ms. That's less than one frame and absolutely undetectable. Even Four Wude (pro Street Fighter player who runs displaylag.com) was not able to tell the difference between a high speed gaming monitor and the P series.

I come from many years of gaming with a 0ms CRT and picked the P series up in January and it's undetectable input lag. If you experience input lag on the P series then it's the game you're playing and not the TV. The following games have terrible input lag from the poorly optimized game engines: The Division, Destiny 1, Evolve, unpatched Prey, Mass Effect Andromeda, Ghost Recon Wildlands, and many more.

A poster on one of the other TCL 6 series thread posted the following. Just as I expected, the 6 series is 120 CMI which is the term for their tech for backlight flashing.

One of the larger failings of the P607 was a slightly narrower viewing angle than most VA panels and poor local dimming performance due to an overly aggressive dimming of moving highlights. Could you watch out for that in your hands on?

Also, I second the Xbox One tests as it sends all streaming shows as 60 Hz. Apparently the native apps on the previous gen were also 60 Hz. It would be interesting to see if judder is present or if they've finally implemented a 3:2 reverse pulldown mode to accomodate movies being sent over 60 Hz.

For example, the opening scene from Alien: Covenant where a tiny spaceship crosses a starry sky caused the P607's local dimming to freak out and flash brightly here and there. Perhaps you could test the same scene on the new 6 series and see how the local dimming handles it. It was awful and one of the main reasons I returned the P607. I'm really hoping they've improved it.

I completely agree. The P607's 14ms input lag is amazing. It doesn't get much better than that. For example, my ultra fast gsync monitor has 12.2ms of input lag at 60fps and that is a monitor designed for gaming.
